Join Our Worker Council

We’re delighted to announce an open call for people to serve on our Worker Council, a select group of models and content creators who are committed to advancing our organizational goals of creating a more fair and equitable fashion industry, with a focus on our campaign for the Fashion Workers Act.

About Model Alliance

The Model Alliance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that aims to advance fair treatment, equal opportunity, and sustainable practices in the fashion industry, from the runway to the factory floor. Our work is centered around the truth that despite fashion’s glamorous façade, the industry is rife with human rights abuses and has been built on the backs of women and girls across the globe who experience debt bondage, sexual abuse, and human trafficking. That’s why we’ve pioneered a new model of labor activism – one that centers workers’ expertise to establish meaningful standards and ensure dignified working conditions in the fashion industry. As a grassroots organization, we are internationally recognized as a leading voice for labor rights in the fashion industry, and our strategic approach to research, education and advocacy has helped us establish a track record of success.

Are You a Fit for this Position?

Worker Council members are expected to join virtual meetings every other week for the duration of New York’s legislative session (January - June 2024) and play an active role in our campaign for the Fashion Workers Act by speaking with lawmakers, participating in press conferences, and raising awareness and support for our efforts. This is a volunteer position, and we’re happy to accommodate outside obligations and individual schedules as needed. If you feel like you might be a good fit, please apply!

We encourage applications from people who are typically underrepresented in nonprofit leadership based on race, ethnicity, ability, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic class, etc.

As a Worker Council member, you’ll get the opportunity to learn about our multipronged approach to labor advocacy, and be a part of a dynamic community of worker leaders, field experts, academics, advocates, and allies.
